For the sixth time this season and the 11th time in his collegiate career, Valparaiso University men’s golf junior Caleb VanArragon (Blaine, Minn. / Blaine) is the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week.
VanArragon led the team by finishing tied for fifth with a 36-hole score of 146 (72-74) at this week’s Wright State Invitational, hosted at the par-71, 7075-yard Heatherwoode Golf Club course in Springboro, Ohio. The golfers dealt with high winds and cold temperatures throughout Sunday’s action before the third and final round of the event that was slated for Monday was canceled due to the weather. VanArragon helped Valpo finish as the team runner-up in a 13-team, 83-player field. The team notched its sixth top-2 finish of the season, while VanArragon captured his eighth top-5 finish in 12 tournaments.
VanArragon enters the MVC Tournament with a season scoring average of 71.19, putting him in position to break the modern program record for a third consecutive season. The junior becomes just the fifth player in conference history to win 11 career MVC Golfer of the Week honors.
Valpo will tee off the three-day, 54-hole MVC Championship on Sunday morning in Paducah, Ky.
