Men’s Golf Picked Second in Preseason Poll

For the second consecutive season, the Valparaiso University men’s golf team was picked to finish second in the Missouri Valley Conference preseason poll, which was released by the league office on Thursday.

The Beacons tallied 91 points in the polling, finishing second to only Illinois State with 99 points. Southern Illinois (80) and Belmont (69) rounded out the top four. Based on the distribution of the points, it appears that all 10 coaches picked the Beacons to finish in the top two. Valpo received one first-place vote with the Redbirds hauling in the other nine.

Valpo finished as the league runner-up last season after also being picked second in last year’s preseason poll.

Valpo closed the fall season with four consecutive top-3 team finishes, finishing the fall with an .800 winning percentage at 48-12. Reigning Missouri Valley Conference individual champion Anthony Delisanti (Sanborn, N.Y. / Niagara Wheatfield) led the team with a 70.33 scoring average this fall, followed closely by three-time All-MVC choice Caleb VanArragon (Blaine, Minn. / Blaine) at 70.80.
