In a group that features one high-profile transfer, and four talented incoming freshmen, Valparaiso head coach Mike Avery announced today that five more players have committed to the men’s soccer program for the 2012 season. The five newest additions are transfer Jesse Ortiz (Aurora, Ill./Benedictine University) and incoming freshmen Ty Unger (Apex, N.C./Middle Creek), Nicholas Kane (Cleveland, Ohio/Mayfield), Alex Lindsey (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing), and Bernard Tume (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral).

Looking to build on a historic 2011 season that saw Valparaiso claim the Horizon League regular season championship, head men’s soccer coach Mike Avery announced a group of three incoming freshmen and two transfers who will continue their soccer careers at Valpo in 2012. The five newest additions are Jordan Aidoud (L’Isled’Abeau, France), Alvaro Betancourt (Caguas, Puerto Rico), Yannick Iwunze (Paris, France), Patrick McNulty (Waukesha, Wis.) and Michael Walsh (Wilmington, N.C.).

The Valparaiso men’s soccer team placed a league-high four student-athletes on the Horizon League men’s soccer Academic All-League team, as Kevin Miller (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias), Todd Vervynckt (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth), Wei Ming Wong (Hong Kong/Hong Kong International [SMU]) and Kyle Zobeck (Coralville, Iowa/Iowa City West) all earned the accolades after helping the Crusaders to the 2011 Horizon League regular season title while also excelling in the classroom.

Center back Stefan Antonijevic (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Stevenson) became the first player in Valparaiso men’s soccer history to be drafted into Major League Soccer on Tuesday, as he was selected with the fifth pick of the third round of the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft by Sporting Kansas City.

Valparaiso junior goalkeeper Kyle Zobeck (Coralville, Iowa/Iowa City West) has been named a Third Team Scholar All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for his performance in 2011, both on the field and in the classroom. Zobeck was one of just 35 Division I student-athletes to earn a spot on the NSCAA Scholar All-American squads.

Two more Valparaiso men’s soccer players have received NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region honors, as fifth-year senior Wei Ming Wong (Hong Kong/Hong Kong International [SMU]) and redshirt junior Kyle Zobeck (Coralville, Iowa/Iowa City West) both earned spots on the All-Region Third Team. The duo joins fifth-year seniorStefan Antonijevic (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Stevenson [College of Lake County/Marquette]), who was revealed as a First Team All-Region honoree late last week.

Fifth-year senior Stefan Antonijevic (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Stevenson [College of Lake County/Marquette]) has been named to the NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region First Team, as released by the organization Friday morning.

Valparaiso University Men's Soccer is proud to announce their 2012 Valpo VIP Spring Day Camp dates of March 18th and April 22nd. These one-day events are an alternative to the customary overnight camp and offer the serious high school, or post-high school, male soccer athlete a focused curriculum designed to assist them as they prepare and grow as soccer players.
