Northwestern Blanks Valpo in Scrimmage

Northwestern visited Eastgate Field on Friday evening for a scrimmage with Valparaiso and handed the Crusaders their second exhibition loss of the preseason 4-0.

The Wildcats got on the scoreboard at the 30:36 mark when Dave Vargas headed home a cross past Jeff Oleck (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral H.S.).

Northwestern added three more goals in the second half against Sean McGinnis (Barrington, Ill./Barrington H.S.). Kevin Earnest scored from ten yards out at the 51:35 mark and Brad Napper headed home a corner eight minutes later. Daniel Chille tallied the visitors final goal from 20 yards out at 63:10 to give Northwestern the shutout.

Brian Heckenbach made two saves in the first 59 minutes for the Wildcats, while Justin Pines made one in relief.

Valpo was outshot 12-8 by Northwestern for the match.

The Crusaders will wrap-up the exhibition portion of their schedule on Sunday afternoon with a 2 p.m. CDT match at Western Michigan.
