Valpo Loses Mid-Con Match at Oral Roberts

Oral Roberts protected its home field on Friday evening, defeating Valparaiso 3-0 in a Mid-Continent Conference match held in Tulsa, Okla.

The Golden Eagles got on the scoreboard two-thirds of the way through the first half on Trey Vaut's team-leading fifth goal of the season at the 30:31 mark. Jason Foster and Shawn Hawkins drew the assists.

Oral Roberts took the 1-0 lead into the locker room, outshooting Valpo 9-6 in the stanza. The Crusaders held a 5-2 advantage on goal though.

Steve McCarthy tallied the second goal just 3:27 into the second half with Foster and Vaut drawing assists.

Andrew Spencer capped the scoring at the 87:27 mark on a penalty kick.

Oral Roberts (3-7-1, 1-1 Mid-Con) outshot the Crusaders 18-12 for the match and held a 5-3 advantage on corner kicks.

Hector Zapata made eight saves for the Golden Eagles, while Jeff Oleck (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral H.S.) made four stops for Valpo.

Valparaiso (1-8-2, 1-2) will return to action on Sunday afternoon with a 1 p.m. match against Drury in Springfield, Mo.
