Sunday, September 5, 2004
Jeremy Stacy (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central H.S.) scored with less than four minutes to play in regulation to help Valparaiso earn a 1-1 double overtime tie with DePaul on Sunday in Chicago.

After the two schools battled to a scoreless first half, the Blue Demons Patrick Vyncke headed home a corner kick from Julian Chille just 1:47 into the second stanza to put the hosts in front.

Stacy then got behind the defense at the 86:37 mark on a breakaway and beat DePaul goalkeeper Brian Allen to knot the match at one. Chris Goss (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview H.S.) and J.J. Eschenburg (Edgewood, N.M./Moriarty H.S.) garnered the assists.

Neither team could score in the extra session and the match ended in a draw.

Valpo outshot the Blue Demons 8-6 for the match, forcing Allen to make three saves. DePaul (1-0-1) earned 16 corner kicks in the match to Valpo's four.

Valparaiso (0-1-1) will return to action on Friday afternoon for its Mid-Continent Conference opener against Oral Roberts. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at Eastgate Field.
