Valpo and Oral Roberts Battle to Scoreless Draw in Mid-Con Opener
Friday, September 10, 2004
Jeff Oleck (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral H.S.) made seven saves in notching his eighth career shutout as Valparaiso and Oral Roberts battled to a scoreless double-overtime draw on Friday evening at Eastgate Field in the Mid-Continent Conference opener for each squad.

The Crusaders' junior moved into second place all alone with his shutout, and trails Aaron Rhame by just four for the all-time career lead in a Valpo uniform. Oleck also has 200 career saves now, moving into fourth place on the all-time list.

Three of the saves, two in the second half and one in overtime, were of the diving variety to help keep the match scoreless for the Brown and Gold.

Oral Roberts' Tony Quartuccio was also up to the challenge, stopping six Valpo shots on his way to his third straight shutout on the year.

Valpo was outshot by the Golden Eagles 15-13 for the match and Oral Roberts (2-0-1, 0-0-1 Mid-Con) held a 12-5 advantage on corner kicks.

Valparaiso (1-1-2, 0-0-1) will return to action next Friday as the Crusaders entertain Butler in a 4:30 p.m. match.
