Valpo Tops Centenary 1-0 Saturday
Saturday, October 1, 2005
Clifton Brown's (Chillicothe, Ohio/Unioto) first collegiate goal was all the offense the Crusaders would need to defeat Centenary 1-0 Saturday at Eastgate Field.

Brown recovered a D.J. Catrow (Springfield, Ohio/Catholic Central/Ohio State) cross that was deflected by Centenary keeper Donnie Henderson, and found the back of the net in the 53rd minute. Brown, a freshman, was playing in only his fourth match of the season and scored on the second shot of his career.

The Valpo offense got rolling in the second half after a slow first 45 minutes, firing 11 of their 18 shots in the second stanza. Catrow led the team with five shots, three on goal, to increase his team-leading total to 26, and Jeremy Stacy (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) capped an impressive day with four shots, including two on goal.

Senior Jeff Oleck (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) earned a second-straight shutout, improving his career total to 11, one shy of the all-time record held by Aaron Rhame. Oleck made three saves in the match, while Henderson made seven saves in a losing effort for the Gents (1-7-0, 0-1-0).

The Crusaders (3-6-0, 1-1-0) continue their conference schedule next Saturday in Rochester, Michigan against Oakland. That match is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. Valpo returns home October 12 for a non-conference match against Detroit.
