Zobeck Named to NSCAA Scholar All-America Third Team
Kyle Zobeck was named an NSCAA Scholar All-American (

Valparaiso junior goalkeeper Kyle Zobeck (Coralville, Iowa/Iowa City West) has been named a Third Team Scholar All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for his performance in 2011, both on the field and in the classroom.  Zobeck was one of just 35 Division I student-athletes to earn a spot on the NSCAA Scholar All-American squads.

On the pitch, Zobeck was the man between the pipes for the Crusaders all season long.  The Horizon League Goalkeeper of the Year and All-Great Lakes Region Third Team honoree set a new Valpo single-season record with 11 shutouts, tied for the seventh-most shutouts in a single year in Horizon League history, and broke the Crusaders’ career record in Valpo’s final game with his 18th career clean sheet.  In addition, he easily topped Valpo’s single-season goals against average mark, closing the season with a 0.66 GAA.  Zobeck led the league at the close of the season in both GAA and shutouts as well.

In the classroom, Zobeck carries a 3.96 cumulative GPA as a mechanical engineering major.  The redshirt junior, a member of the Horizon League All-Academic Team last season, has earned Academic Honor Roll accolades from the league office each semester he has been eligible, and has also received Presidential academic honors during his time at Valpo.

Zobeck also earned a spot on the NSCAA Scholar All-North/Central Region First Team, where he was joined by fellow Crusader Wei Ming Wong (Hong Kong/Hong Kong International [SMU]).  The fifth-year senior, who posted a 3.79 cumulative GPA as an international business and finance major, earned All-Great Lakes Region Third Team honors this past season.  Wong started all 20 games at center back for the Crusaders in 2011 and was an integral part of a defensive unit that surrendered a school record low 14 goals while posting 11 clean sheets.
