Pair of Former Crusader Stars Meet at Professional Level in U.S. Open Cup
Kyle Zobeck and Stefan Antonijevic saw their teams meet up in the U.S. Open Cup.

A pair of former Valparaiso men's soccer standouts, Stefan Antonijevic and Kyle Zobeck, saw their respective professional clubs meet earlier this week in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. in the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

Zobeck’s visiting FC Dallas (MLS) squad held on for a 2-0 win over Antonijevic, coming off a nod on the NASL Team of the Week last week, and his Fort Lauderdale Strikers (NASL) side in historic Lockhart Stadium. The match was a third-round contest of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, the oldest soccer tournament in U.S. Soccer history and this year celebrating the 100th anniversary of an Open Cup that allows amateur teams to compete for the right to play professional sides.

In other U.S. Open Cup action earlier this week, Valparaiso junior midfielder Zev Taublieb accompanied his Des Moines Menace (PDL) side to Livestrong Park in Kansas City to face Sporting Kansas City (MLS). The Menace fell 2-0 to SKC, the reigning US Open Cup Champions.
