Crusaders to Host Annual TOCO Benefit Match

Men's soccer will host its fifth annual benefit match for They Often Cry Outreach (TOCO) on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Brown Field against UIC, raising money for TOCO's annual Holiday Toy Drive. In addition, volleyball's Saturday afternoon match at 2 p.m. against UIC will serve as a TOCO benefit match as well.

There will be no admission charge for Friday night's men's soccer match, with all donations at the gate going to TOCO. The first 100 donations of $10 or more will receive a special TOCO/Valpo Athletics winter beanie, while Valparaiso scarves will be on sale for $20 at the match, with $5 of the proceeds going to TOCO. In addition, the first 150 students in attendance on Friday will receive free scarves. At Saturday's volleyball match, scarves will be on sale as well, while donations will also be accepted.

The goal for TOCO this year in its annual Holiday Toy Drive is to deliver 200 bicycles and helmets to underprivileged children in St. Lucia. Just $60 will buy a bicycle and a helmet for one child, and our goal is to help play a big role in helping TOCO achieve its goal.

TOCO is a U.S. based not-for-profit organization founded by internationally renowned artist Taj Weekes, a native of St. Lucia. The mission of the organization is to improve the lives of underprivileged and at-risk children in the Caribbean through sports, health, and other enrichment programs. The men's soccer program first became involved with TOCO early in the 2008 season, and hosted its first benefit match in 2009. Men's soccer head coach Mike Avery serves on the organization's executive board as well.
