Vervynckt Earns Academic All-District Honor

For the second year straight, Valparaiso senior Todd Vervynckt (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth) was named to the Capital One Academic All-District V Men’s Soccer team. The selection, as announced on Thursday, came from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). As an Academic All-District V member, Vervynckt will be placed on the ballot for Academic All-American Honors.

On the field, Vervynckt has started in each of the eleven matches that he has played in. The senior midfielder has scored a pair of opening goals this season for the Crusaders; the first coming in the Crusaders’ 2-1 win over then #24 Michigan State, and the second in a 2-1 overtime victory over IUPUI. Vervynckt also provided the assist on the game-winning goal against IUPUI. His first assist set up the game-tying goal against North Florida. Vervynckt is second on the team in goals scored and tied for second in assists with two in each category.

In the classroom, Vervynckt owns a 3.98 cumulative grade point average as a mechanical engineering major.  No stranger to academic success, Vervynckt was a 2012 Third Team Academic All-American selection as well as a Horizon League All-Academic team selection. He has also been named to the Dean’s List and received Presidential academic honors during his time at Valpo.

In order to be eligible for Academic All-District honor, student-athletes must hold at least sophomore status, own a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 and be either a starter or key reserve.  District V consists of schools in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio.
