Valparaiso erupted for six goals, four in the second half, as the Crusaders defeated Oakton 6-0 on Sunday afternoon at Eastgate Field in their final scrimmage of the preseason.

Valpo got on the board in the 27th minute when Owen Hoyt (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake H.S.) took a cross from Billy Wanecke (Granger, Ind./Mishawaka Marian H.S.) and scored to put the Crusaders ahead.

In the 40th minute, Mark Korba (Portage, Ind./Portage H.S.) headed home a Jon Flugstad (San Antonio, Texas/Putnam City North H.S.) to give the Crusaders a 2-0 advantage at halftime.

Valpo then scored four times in the first 27 minutes of the second half. Hoyt returned the favor from Wanecke, feeding the senior from the left side for the third goal of the match. In the 53rd minute, Ryan Wolin (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park H.S.) knocked home a Wanecke rebound from ten yards out.

Valpo's final two goals came on penalty kicks, as Korba and Flugstad each connected.

The Crusaders outshot the Raiders 25-3, and held a 16-1 advantage on net.

Valpo will open its regular season this Friday (Aug. 31) when the Crusaders travel to the Falcon Invitational at Air Force. The Crusaders will battle Denver at 1 p.m. CDT in the opening round.
