Butler Defeats Valpo Men 5-1

Butler scored four times in the second half to break open a tied match as the Bulldogs went on to defeat Valparaiso 5-1 on Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis, Ind.

The Crusaders managed just six shot attempts on the afternoon, compared with Butler's 21, 13 of which were on net. The Bulldogs also held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Andrew Pancio put the hosts on the scoreboard at the 38:40 mark scoring on a rebound off of a John Mariscalco header.

Valpo tied the match at one right before intermission as James Flugstad (Oklahoma City, Okla./Putnam City North H.S.) scored off of a Nate Hyde (South Bend, Ind./Clay H.S.) throw-in at the 41:05 mark.

In the second half it was all Butler (1-1-1) though. The Bulldogs outshot Valpo 13-2. Mariscalco put Butler on top at the 62:55 mark from 18 yards out in front and Ryan Marques added another tally at 76:32. The Bulldgos added two more goals in the final 7:04 of the contest to seal the victory.

Jeff Oleck (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral H.S.) made eight saves in net for the Brown and Gold, while Evan Reinhardt made three stops for the Bulldogs.

Valparaiso (0-3) will look for their first victory of the season next Sunday when the Crusaders travel to Detroit for a 2 p.m. CDT match.
