Valpo Erupts for Four Goals in Rout of Xavier

Valparaiso scored four goals for the first time since 2001, including three in the second half, as the Crusaders defeated Xavier (Ohio) 4-1 on Sunday afternoon in Cincinnati, Ohio.

D.J. Catrow (Springfield, Ohio/Catholic Central H.S.) took a cross in the box from Jeremy Stacy (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central H.S.) and beat goalkeeper Brian Schaeper 11:10 into the contest to put the Crusaders in front. Jon Brighton (Warner Robins, Ga./Houston County H.S.) also drew an assist for the Crusaders.

Mark Korba (Portage, Ind./Portage H.S.) scored on a rebound at the 62:16 mark for an unassisted goal to put Valpo up two. Nick Frasher cut the lead to one at 69:37 on a free kick for the Musketeers, but the Brown and Gold answered with two more insurance goals to put the match away.

John Allendorf (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) scored his first goal at 73:43 after receiving a pass from Korba and scoring one-on-one into the lower right corner of the goal. Brighton then added the final tally with 4:13 scoring one-on-one with the assist going to Stacy.

Jeff Oleck (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral H.S.) made nine saves in goal for Valpo to secure the win, while Schaeper made seven stops for the Musketeers.

Xavier (1-4) outshot Valpo 21-19 for the match and held a 4-2 advantage on corner kicks.

Valparaiso (2-2-2), which began a seven-match roadtrip with the victory will head to Springfield, Mo. next Friday evening for a 7 p.m. match with Drury.
