Valpo Falls Just Short at Butler
Friday, September 9, 2005
Valparaiso's second half comeback attempt fell just short on Friday afternoon as the Crusaders dropped a 2-1 decision to Butler in Indianapolis, Ind.

The Bulldogs wasted little time jumping in front as Roberto Gallo headed home a cross at the 2:46 mark to give the hosts the lead. John DeVae added another goal at the 22:25 mark scoring from ten yards out on the right side.

Valpo found the back of the net at 73:30 as D.J. Catrow (Springfield, Ohio/Catholic Central H.S.) scored his third goal of the season from eight yards out on the right.

Valpo was unable to capitalize the rest of the way though, despite outshooting Butler 8-3 in the second half. The Bulldogs held a 10-9 shot advantage for the match.

Jeff Oleck (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral H.S.) made two saves for the Crusaders while Frank Peabody made two stops for Butler (3-0).

Valparaiso (1-2) will host Northern Illinois on Sunday afternoon at Eastgate Field in the Crusaders home opener. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
