Valparaiso sophomore goalkeeper Nico Campbell (Kingston, Jamaica) has been named the Horizon League men’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week after recording back to back shutouts to open the season.

Campbell notched his second and third shutouts of his career over the weekend against major competition. On Friday night’s opening match, he stopped seven shots in holding the Wolfpack of North Carolina State scoreless in double overtime. In Sunday afternoon’s match against the Davidson Wildcats, he made three saves in another 110 minute thriller, including a shot in the 107th minute.

Campbell and the Crusaders have a week off before returning to the pitch against former Horizon League rival Butler on Tuesday, September 9. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT, with live stats available through ValpoAthletics.com.
