Men’s Soccer Celebrates 2014-15 Award Winners
Defensive MVP Nico Campbell and Offensive MVP Jordan Aidoud.

Valparaiso University men’s soccer coach Mike Avery announced Friday the list of recipients of the program’s annual team awards. The majority of the awards were officially presented following the team’s spring alumni game, an event which officially marks the end of the 2014-15 academic year, with a few late additions coming at last weekend’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Athletic Recognition Ceremony (ARC) Awards.

The Valpo men’s soccer team followed up one of the best seasons in program history with an undefeated spring exhibition season.  With a record of 5-0-1 in the spring, the Crusaders lone blemish on a perfect record came in a 2-2 draw on the road to 2013 national champion and perennial ACC power Notre Dame.

At the 2015 ARC Awards on Sunday evening, Valparaiso Director of Athletics Mark LaBarbera also presented the inaugural Anderson-Hoffman Memorial Service Award, named in honor of former student-athletes Roger Anderson and Greg Hoffman – Anderson, a cross country and track athlete, was killed in action in Vietnam in 1968, while Hoffman, a men’s basketball player, passed away in Japan in 1968 while serving as a Prince of Peace volunteer. The inaugural award went to men’s soccer senior Tom Serratore (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew), whose tireless work in organizing the annual St. Baldrick’s fundraiser has helped result in over $150,000 being raised to fight childhood cancers in the last five years.

The Crusaders will return to campus in August to prepare for the 2015 season. Valpo opens the 2015 exhibition schedule on August 17, with a 6:30 pm CT match against Big Ten power Indiana University in Bloomington. Valpo then kicks off the regular season on August 28 with a road game at 2014 NCAA Tournament participant Kentucky. The Crusaders open their home slate on September 7, as they play host to Loyola University-Chicago in a 7:00 pm match at Brown Field.
