Madrid Receives Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week Honor

Valparaiso University men’s soccer senior Isaiah Madrid (Albuquerque, N.M. / Eldorado [Florida Gulf Coast]) has been named Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week for his performance on Saturday night against Northern Kentucky.

In the team’s lone match of the week, Madrid scored two goals and added an assist to help the Crusaders capture three Horizon League points in a 5-0 win over Northern Kentucky.

Madrid becomes the third Crusader to earn a league weekly award this season, joining Nico Campbell (Sept. 6) and Kendan Anderson (Oct. 3).

The five-point performance lifted Madrid to 23 for the season. He is now tied for fifth on the single-season Valpo points list. No Valpo player has racked up 23 points or more in a single season since Scott Daly in 2001.

In addition, Madrid has scored nine goals this year, moving him into a tie for sixth in single-season program history. He is the first Valpo player to score nine goals or more in a single year since Ben Olson in 2002.

The Crusaders face a quick turnaround as they return to the pitch for a Monday matinee at Brown Field as IUPUI comes to town for a 3 p.m. start. Please note the start time has changed from the time listed on the original schedule.
