Waugaman Earns CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

Valparaiso University men’s soccer fifth-year senior Dylan Waugaman (Houston, Texas / Friendswood [Oregon State]) added to his list of honors related to success both on the field and in the classroom on Thursday as he was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team.

Waugaman is one of 11 student-athletes on the District 5 team, which is comprised of players from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. Student-athletes must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or important reserve to be considered for the honor.

Waugaman, who finished his undergraduate degree with a 3.99 GPA in accounting and is pursuing a master’s in business administration, earned Academic All-District honors for the second consecutive season. He received Academic All-America Second Team recognition last season and is up for All-America consideration again this year by virtue of his all-district status.

The fifth-year senior was the recipient of the 2018 Bill Steinbrecher Sportsmanship Award, which is presented annually to the male student-athlete who best exemplifies integrity and sportsmanship while representing Valparaiso University. He was part of the MVC Scholar-Athlete spotlight this year after also earning 2018 MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team accolades.

On the pitch, Waugaman has twice produced goals this season. He found the back of the net for the game-tying goal in an eventual 2-1 victory vs. Evansville on Sept. 22 before scoring the first goal of the match against No. 9 Missouri State on Oct. 30.

Waugaman will be one of six seniors honored before the fixture on Saturday as Valpo hosts Loyola on Senior Night at Brown Field. The match will kick off shortly after 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
