Adrian Ortiz enters his first season as an undergraduate student assistant coach in 2010 after spending four years starting for the Crusader side.

PLAYER BIO:

2010: A Second-Team All-Horizon League selection ... appeared in all 19 games, starting 18 ... finished career having started 74 total contests ... finished his senior season with one goal and four assists ... closed career tied for third in Valparaiso men's soccer history with 13 total assists.

2009: Started all 19 fixtures as a junior, shifting between the midfield and the back line to help shore up the Crusader defense ... did not come off the pitch at all, playing all 1,768 minutes on the season ... has appeared in 56 consecutive matches since the start of his Valpo career ... named to the All-Horizon League Second Team ... anchor of a Crusader defense that allowed just 21 goals in 19 games, second-fewest in a single year in program history ... also earned a spot on the Horizon League All-Tournament Team after anchoring the Crusader defense that shut out Milwaukee in the quarterfinals ... scored first career goal to knot up regular season finale with Cleveland State in the 66th minute Nov. 7 ... added his second goal of the game just five minutes later to account for all the scoring in Valpo’s 2-1 victory over the Vikings ... recorded 23 shot attempts on the year, including a season-high four against Cleveland State ... also put two shots on frame Sept. 8 at #8/10 USF ... played this past summer with the Cary Railhawks U23 squad.

2008: Appeared in all 19 contests for the Crusaders during his sophomore year … started for Valpo 13 times, including each of the season’s last seven games … registered assist on match-winning goal in season-opening 2-1 victory over Eastern Illinois Aug. 29 … also recorded helper at Butler on Oct. 3  … fired eight shots on the season, two of which were on frame … posted career-high four shot attempts Sept. 7 against Western Illinois ... played for the Chicago Fire Super-20 squad during summer of 2009.

 

2007: Played in all 18 matches for Valpo as a freshman, making 15 starts ... playmaker led Crusaders and tied for Horizon League lead with seven assists ... seven helpers is second-most in a single season in program history ... six of his seven assists came in a Crusader tie or victory ... made an immediate impact, assisting on Valpo’s first goal of the season Aug. 31 at N.C. State ... tied for second in Valpo’s single-match record book with two assists Sept. 7 against IPFW ... registered helper on Valpo’s lone goal Sept. 16 versus Loyola at Toyota Park ... also posted assists at Detroit, versus Michigan State and against Cleveland State ... fired shots on goal versus IPFW and Loyola and at Western Illinois.

Prep: A four-year letterwinner for the Mustangs ... scored 22 goals and added 16 assists as a senior, helping lead Morton to a 26-1-1 record and a #4 state ranking ... named to the 2006 NSCAA All-Region V (Midwest) Team ... earned first team All-Area accolades from both the Chicago Sun-Times and the Chicago Tribune in 2006 ... also received first team All-State and All-Conference honors for his superb senior season ... earned All-Conference and All-Sectional accolades as a junior ... a member of National Honor Society.
