Steve Shively is in his second season as a member of the Valparaiso men's soccer coaching staff in 2012, serving as an assistant coach, as well as the head coach of the Crusaders' reserve program. Before returning to Valpo, Shively spent 2010 as an assistant coach at Parkland College in Champaign, Ill.
2009: A Second Team All-Horizon League honoree ... appeared in 18 games, starting on 15 occasions ... finished tied for the team lead with 14 points, including a team-high four assists ... ranked second among the Crusaders with five goals ... closed career tied for sixth all-time at Valpo with 18 career goals ... tallied 41 points for his career, tied for eighth-most all-time by a Crusader men's soccer player.
2008: Saw action in 18 matches for the Crusaders as a junior, making four starts … finished third on the team in goals (4) and points (8), fourth in shots (17) and third in shots on goal (11) … posted first career multi-goal game in 3-0 victory over Western Michigan on Sept. 21 … found back of net for eventual game-winning goal against the Broncos in the 40th minute … also added an insurance marker in the 74th minute … knotted up Horizon League contest against Cleveland State in the 30th minute on Oct. 11 … made it two straight games with a score when he registered a goal in the 47th minute in victory over IPFW Oct. 19 … marker against the Mastodons ended up being the match-winner, the seventh-such tally of his career … Crusaders’ record improved to 7-2-3 when Shively finds the back of the net … earned Horizon League Academic Honor Roll mention for both fall and spring semesters.
2007: Appeared in all 18 of Valpo's matches as a sophomore, starting 14 times ... led all Crusaders in goals (5), points (10), shots (33) and shots on goal (18) ... finished fifth among Horizon League players in goals per game (0.28) ... scored lone Crusader goal in 1-1 tie vs. Loyola at Toyota Park on Sept. 16 in Valpo's Horizon League debut ... registered fifth career match-winning goal on Sept. 21 at Western Illinois, a 2-1 Valpo victory ... secured another league tie for the Crusaders Sept. 29 at Milwaukee, scoring in the 78th minute in a 1-1 draw ... fired a career-best five shots vs. #19/17 Michigan State Oct. 21 and found the back of the net in the 28th minute, again Valpo's only goal in a 1-1 tie ... goal against the Spartans was the eighth straight from the start of his career that was either a match-winner or the Crusaders' lone tally in a 1-1 draw ... added final score of season in first round of Horizon League Championship Nov. 9 at Wright State ... named to Academic All-League team ... a member of the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll for both fall and spring semesters.
2006: Started 13 matches as a freshman for the Crusaders ... tied for second on squad with four goals ... all four of his goals were of the match-winning variety, matching the most game-winners by a Crusader in at least a decade (Scott Daly, 2001) ... notched Valpo's first goal of the season in a victory over DePaul Aug. 25 ... took four shots, all on goal, Aug. 27 against Evansville and scored the match-winner in the second overtime session ... also fired four shots Sept. 17 versus Cleveland State ... picked up first career assist Sept. 23 at Centenary ... found the back of the net in the 53rd minute against Oakland for the match's only goal in a 1-0 win on Sept. 30 ... tallied first goal of the match Oct. 8 at IPFW ... a member of the Mid-Continent Conference All-Academic Team.
