Crusaders Fall to IUPUI

The Valparaiso men's swim team dropped a 141.5-109.5 decision to IUPUI Friday evening at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool.

The Jaguars won nine of the 14 events on the way to the victory.

Mike Hermes (Hudson, Ill./U-High) was a double-winner on the evening for the Brown and Gold. He began with a two-second victory in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:18.39. The junior followed up that win with a triumph in the 200 individual medley by just over two seconds, touching the wall in 2:05.35.

Sean Conrin (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Buffalo Grove H.S.) registered the Crusaders first victory of the meet in the 100 backstroke. His time of 57.06 seconds outtouched the Jaguars by .09 seconds.

Jeff Ewers (Huntertown, Ind./Carroll H.S.) won the next event for the Brown and Gold with his time of 1:02.06 in the 100 breast. The junior touched the wall .64 seconds ahead of IUPUI.

Bob Schmidt (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville H.S.) tallied Valpo's other victory with a 1.43 second win in the 100 freestyle. The freshman touched the wall in 49.67 seconds.

The Crusaders will return to the pool on Saturday afternoon for contest with Lewis. The meet begins at 1 p.m. at the Athletics-Recreation Center.
