Crusaders Fall to IUPUI and St. Louis

The Valparaiso University men's swimming and diving team dropped a double-dual meet on Friday evening, falling to IUPUI and St. Louis in Indianapolis.

The Crusaders fell to the host Jaguars 87-24 and to St. Louis 96-15.

Mike Hermes (Hudson, Ill./U-High) recorded Valpo's lone victory on the evening in the 200 breaststroke. His time of 2:15.03 was five seconds better than the rest of the field.

The Brown and Gold also earned three third place finishes. Jeff Ewers (Huntertown, Ind./Carroll H.S.) touched the wall in 4:30.79 in the 400 individual medley, while Neil Badgett (Houston, Texas/Strake Jesuit Prep) earned third place in the 200 butterfly (2:10.29). Freshman Bob Schmidt (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville H.S.) was the third Crusader to finish third with his 49.31 second effort in the 100 freestyle.

The Crusaders will return to the pool on Saturday afternoon when they compete at the Purdue Invitational beginning at noon.
