Crusaders Men Sixth at Indiana Intercollegiates

Valparaiso's men's swimming and diving team finished in sixth place at the Indiana Intercollegiates on Saturday afternoon in a meet held in West Lafayette, Ind.

The Crusaders tallied 126 points, while Purdue won the event with 700 points.

Bob Schmidt (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville H.S.) finished in eighth place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:48.32. He also placed eighth in the 100 free, touching the wall in 48.94 seconds.

Travers Smith (Huntley, Ill./Huntley H.S.) earned a sixth place mark in the 100 backstroke in a time of 55.16 seconds, and was ninth in the 50 free (22.59 seconds) for Valpo's other top-ten finishes on the day.

Dave Peterson (Schererville, Ind./Highland H.S.) was 11th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.36.

Valpo will return to the pool next weekend when the Crusaders travel to Charleston, Ill. for the Eastern Illinois Invitational. The two-day meet will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. on Saturday.
