Crusaders Split Double-Dual

Valparaiso's men split a double-dual meet on Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis, defeating Butler 113-74 while falling to Saint Louis 143.5-63.5.

Travers Smith (Huntley, Ill./Huntley H.S.) registered a victory for the Crusaders in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.20 seconds, while also finishing second in the 100 backstroke. He finished in 54.62 seconds in the back, 1.54 off of the lead.

David Kesler (Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Groves H.S.) finished in a tie for second in the 50 free with a time of 22.59 seconds, just behind Smith.

Bob Schmidt (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville H.S.) also posted a runner-up finish on Sunday, taking second in the 100 free with a time of 49.27. He trailed Saint Louis by just .24 seconds.

David Peterson (Schererville, Ind./Highland H.S.) rounded out Valpo's second place finishers by posting a runner-up effort in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.36.

Valpo (2-5) will return to the pool on Saturday afternoon for the Crusaders final home meet of the season. The Brown and Gold will entertain Eastern Illinois beginning at 1 p.m.
