Friday, November 14, 2003
Valparaiso University's men's swim team lost a tight 103-99 decision to Lewis on Friday evening in Romeoville, Ill.

The Crusaders won just two events the entire evening, but used its depth to keep the meet close.

Freshman Colin Simpson (Rockford, Ill./Auburn H.S.) posted a first place finish for the Crusaders in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:52.16, more than three seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

Jeff Ewers (Huntertown, Ind./Carroll H.S.) tallied Valpo's other win, doing so in the 100 breaststroke. The senior touched the wall in 1:03.09, notching the win by more than six seconds.

In every event on the evening the Brown and Gold notched a runner-up finish.

Valparaiso (1-1) will return to action on Saturday afternoon when the Crusaders travel to Wisconsin-Green Bay for a 2 p.m. meet against the Phoenix.
