Valpo Men Swim Past Lewis
Friday, November 12, 2004
Valparaiso recorded its second straight dual meet victory on Friday evening, defeating Lewis 99-96 at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool.

The Crusaders opened the meet with a victory in the 400 medley relay as Travers Smith (Huntley, Ill./Huntley H.S.), David Peterson (Schererville, Ind./Highland H.S.), Bob Pedersen (Urbana, Ill./Urbana H.S.), and David Kesler (Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Groves H.S.) touched the wall in 3:39.78.

Smith then recorded an individual win in the 200 freestyle with his time of 1:46.65 and Peterson was a convincing winner in the 200 individual medley. The sophomore's time of 1:58.98 was more than 14 seconds in front of his nearest competitor.

Smith doubled up in the win total with a five and a half second win in the 100 backstroke with a mark of 54.36 seconds, and Valpo relied on its depth in the other events for seconds and thirds to record the win.

Valpo (2-0) will return to the pool on Saturday afternoon as the Crusaders host Wisconsin-Green Bay in a 2 p.m. contest at the ARC.
