Valpo Closes Out Swim Season at Mid-Con Championships

Valparaiso wrapped up the Mid-Continent Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, as well as the 2006-2007 season, on Saturday as the Crusaders placed seventh in Indianapolis, Ind.

The Crusaders finished the three day meet with 187 points. Oakland won the team title with 982 points with Centenary finishing second with 603.5 points.

Dave Peterson (Schererville, Ind./Highland H.S.) was the top Crusader finisher on the day, placing fifth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:08.95, the second quickest time in school history.

Adam Jajtner (Port Washington, Wis./Port Washington H.S.) finished in seventh place for the Brown and Gold in the mile with a time of 16:49.20. Ansel Hillmer (Tampa, Fla./Hillsborough H.S.) earned a 13th place finish in the 200 butterfly, touching the wall in 2:00.33.

Kyle Verage (Hubertus, Wis./Marquette H.S.) had the Crusaders top time in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:02.24, but failed to qualify for the finals, missing out in a swim-off for the final spot in the preliminaries. Ed Standen (Saint Joseph, Mich./Saint Joseph H.S.) was Valpo's top finisher in the 100 freestyle, also missing out on the finals, with a time of 51.29 seconds.

Valpo finished the meet with a seventh place finish in the 400 free relay as Peterson, Verage, Blake Edwards (Orange, Calif./Lutheran H.S. of Orange County), and Jajtner finished with a time of 3:15.98.
