Friday, October 20, 2006
Valparaiso opened the home portion of the 2006-2007 season on Friday evening, but Xavier (Ohio) upended the Crusaders 154-104 at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool.

Adam Jajtner (Port Washington, Wis./Port Washington H.S.) won the 1000 freestyle in convincing fashion, by nearly nine seconds, with a time of 10:19.66 for the Brown and Gold in the first individual event of the night. The sophomore followed up that win with another victory in the 500 free, posting a time of 4:54.74.

Dave Peterson (Schererville, Ind./Highland H.S.) followed that up with a win in the 200 free, touching the wall in 1:48.66. Peterson was also a double-winner on the evening, capturing top honors in the 200 individual medley with his time of 1:58.73, six seconds better than his nearest competitor.

Freshman John Schumacher (Fairfax Station, Va./Woodson H.S.) earned his first collegiate victory in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.60, a three second victory.

Valpo (1-3) will dive back into the pool on Saturday afternoon, as the Crusaders head to Cleveland, Ohio to battle future Horizon League foe Cleveland State. The first event begins at 12 p.m. CDT.
