Cleveland State posted victories in all 13 events on Saturday afternoon as the Vikings defeated Valparaiso 174-52 in the Crusaders’ dual meet opener in Cleveland, Ohio.
David Sivak (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) earned a runner-up finish for the Crusaders in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.15 seconds, just .11 seconds off of the pace.
Kurtis Malone (Pekin, Ill./Pekin H.S.) also finished second for the Brown and Gold in both the one-meter and three-meter diving with scores of 222.60 and 189.60 respectively. His one-meter performance ranks seventh on Valpo’s all-time list.
“Cleveland State is really strong but I thought we had hung tough in most events and had some good swims today,” head coach Bryan Morrison said afterwards.
Valparaiso (0-1) will return to action next Saturday evening as the Crusaders head to Cincinnati, Ohio to battle Xavier. The first event is set to begin at 5 p.m. CDT.
