            Valparaiso had several swims among the best in school history on Friday at the Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships after the action shifted to Akron, Ohio.

            The meet had been held at Cleveland State for the first two days, but a water main broke in the city forcing the championships to be relocated.  Instead of preliminary heats and finals, the event changed to just timed finals.

            Adam Jajtner (Port Washington, Wis./Port Washington H.S.) turned in the second fastest time in school history in the 400 individual medley, finishing 12^th overall with a time of 4:14.89.

            Ansel Hillmer (Tampa, Fla./Hillsborough H.S.) also swam the second fastest 100 butterfly ever at Valpo with his time of 51.81 seconds.  He finished 15^th overall for the Brown and Gold.

            In the 100 backstroke, David Sivak (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) moved into fifth place all-time in school history with a time of 53.22 seconds, placing 13^th in the race.

            Blake Edwards (Orange, Calif./Lutheran H.S. of Orange County) moved into ninth place on the Crusader all-time lists with a time of 1:46.60 in the 200 freestyle, finishing as Valpo’s top finisher in the event in 18^th place.

            Andrew Geibel (Bartlesville, Okla./Bartlesville H.S.) placed 11^th overall in the 100 breaststroke, Valpo’s top place finish on the day in an individual event.  The sophomore touched the wall in 1:02.36, a season’s best mark.

            The Crusaders finished the day with a sixth place showing in the 800 freestyle relay.  Sivak, Jajtner, Edwards, and Ed Standen (Saint Joseph, Mich./Saint Joseph H.S.) finished with a time of 7:09.17, the sixth fastest relay ever at Valpo.

            “We had some really solid swims today,” interim head coach Barbara Tyree said.  “We had lots of top season times, as well as some that rank among the best in school history.  We are looking forward to wrapping up competition tomorrow.”

            Valpo remains in sixth place heading into Saturday’s final day of competition with 138 points.  Wright State leads the way with 535 points, followed by Cleveland State (447) and Milwaukee (444).  UIC is fourth with 390.5 points and Green Bay is fifth with 346.5 points.

            The championships will remain in Akron for Saturday’s final day of competition.  Diving finals will begin at 11 a.m. CST with swimming timed finals taking place at 3 p.m. CST.
