Valparaiso’s men’s swim team opened its home campaign on Saturday afternoon suffering a 122-74 setback to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool.
Tate Wegehaupt (Tigard, Ore./Tigard H.S.) earned Valpo’s lone victory on the afternoon, winning the 100 breaststroke by nearly a second. The freshman touched the wall in 1:01.41.
David Sivak (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) earned a runner-up finish for the Crusaders in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.37 seconds.
Alex Cox (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way H.S.) finished third in the 50 freestyle, posting a mark of 22.44 seconds. Trevor Trimpe (New Palestine, Ind./Connersville H.S.) also finished third in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:30.49. Trimpe also posted the third fastest time in the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.31.
Valparaiso (0-4) remains at home on Friday afternoon as the Crusaders host Cleveland State. The first event begins at 1 p.m. at the Athletics-Recreation Center.
