Led by a new school record from David Sivak (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.), Valparaiso sits in sixth place after day two of the Calvin Invitational held in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Sivak set a new school record for the Crusaders in the morning preliminary heats of the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:54.18, shattering the mark of 1:55.53 set by Travers Smith in 2006.  It is his fifth individual school record at Valpo.  He finished in eighth place in the finals in the event.

Sivak, a senior, also earned a sixth place finish for the Brown and Gold in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.49 seconds, just 0.16 seconds out of third place.

Guillermo Aguilar (San Salvador, El Salvador/Colegio Internacional de San Salvador H.S.) also earned a top-10 finish in the 200 fly with his time of 1:58.22, which ranks fifth all-time at Valpo in the event.

Tate Wegehaupt (Tigard, Ore./Tigard H.S.) earned a seventh place finish for the Crusaders in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.10.  Trevor Trimpe (New Palestine, Ind./Connersville H.S.) also earned a top-15 finish with his time of 1:02.78 in the event.

Russell Deghi (Sebestopol, Calif./Analy H.S.) led the way for Valpo in the 100 backstroke with his 16th place finish with a time of 58.19 seconds. 

Thomas Patrick (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead H.S.) led the Crusaders  in the 200 freestyle with his time of 1:57.51.

The lone relay of the day saw Wegehaupt, Alex Cox (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way North H.S.), Deghi, and Kevin Fedde (Fort Collins, Colo./Heritage Christian H.S.) post a time of 1:30.74 in the 200 free event.

The Crusaders have scored 108 points through two days of action at the met, 17 more than Alma.  Grand Valley State leads the way with 686 points followed by Kalamazoo with 308 points.  Host Calvin is one spot ahead of Valpo with 150 points.

Valparaiso will return to the water on Saturday for the final day of competition.  Preliminary heats begin at 9 a.m. with finals slated for 5 p.m.
