Valparaiso University’s Russell Deghi (Sebestopol, Calif./Analy H.S.), Austin Hunter (La Crescent, Minn./La Crescent H.S.), and Ian Jones (Lexington, Ohio/Lexington H.S.) have all been voted to the Academic All-Horizon League Team for men’s swimming in balloting done by the league’s faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors.
Deghi was among Valpo’s top three swimmers all season in the 50 and 100 freestyle and currently has the 10th best time in school history in the 100 free (48.21). The senior is an exercise science major with a 3.44 cumulative grade point average.
Hunter posted the school’s fifth fastest 100 butterfly time ever this season (52.99) and also ranks sixth on the all-time 50 freestyle charts (21.70). A two-time member of the Academic All-Horizon League Team, Hunter has a 3.36 GPA in electrical engineering as a senior.
Jones, a sophomore, has been a versatile competitor for the Crusaders since arriving at Valpo, competing in all of the freestyle events ranging from the 50 through the 1,000 as well as the 100 and 200 butterflies. A computer science major, Jones has a 3.53 cumulative GPA.
To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester hours.
