Men’s Swimming Competes in Final Dual Meet of Season Saturday
Derek Eidson picked up a second-place finish in the 100 fly Saturday.

The Valpo men’s swimming team took to the pool for its final dual meet of the regular season on Saturday, traveling to Muncie to take on Ball State.

How It Happened

  • A pair of Valpo seniors earned second-place finishes in individual events to lead the team effort on Saturday afternoon. Billy Bennett (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) came home second in the 100 breast, touching the wall in 1:00.72, while Derek Eidson (Ventura, Calif./Ventura) posted a time of 54.02 in the 100 fly to earn a runner-up finish.
  • Freshman Ethan Welker (Clear Spring, Md./Saint James School) recorded a third-place finish in the 200 breast with a time of 2:18.55 and also paced Valpo in the 200 IM.
  • In addition to his showing in the 100 fly, Eidson also led the Beacons in the 50 free, while sophomore Ian Jaegers (Los Alamos, N.M./Los Alamos) headed the Valpo contingent in both the 100 back and the 200 back.
  • Ball State captured the team scoring, 153-95.

Next Up

The Valpo men will have nearly a month away from competition to round into form for the 2022 Mid-American Conference Swimming Championships, to be held March 2-5 in Carbondale, Ill.
