Barbara Tyree is a volunteer assistant on the Valparaiso University swimming and diving staff, having worked with the team since the 2005-2006 season. She also assisted the squad from 1997-2001.
Tyree helps with all facets of the Crusader program and served as the team’s interim head coach in the spring of 2008.
Prior to arriving at Valpo, Tyree coached swimming at the high school level in Farmington, N.M. and Pullman, Wash.
In addition to coaching, Tyree is in her 13th year teaching in the physical education department at Valparaiso. She is an associate professor, director of the Physical Education Teacher Education Program, and in the summer of 2009 was named the department’s chair.
Tyree received her master’s degree in movement studies from Washington State University in 1993. She went on to earn her doctorate in sports pedadogy from the University of Idaho in 1996.
