The Valparaiso University swimming and diving team will be providing four free 30-minute swim lessons this fall to the first 400 people ages three and older that register.
Each individual that registers will receive one lesson each Saturday starting September 9, 2007. If the individual is already a swimmer or triathlete, the team will be offering a stroke school to help refine your swimming to the first 100 people ages 9 and older that register.
Head Coach and Assistant Professor Bryan Morrison, Ph.D., has been granted the exclusive rights to operate the SwimAmerica program for the Northwest Indiana area (www.swimamerica.org). SwimAmerica is a national learn to swim program operated by the American Swimming Coaches Association through over 500 Program Directors and over 900 sites across the USA. It is the state-of-the-art learn to swim program in the world today. It is brought to you by the same people who have brought you the most successful sport team on the planet, the USA Olympic Swimming Team. What we learn teaching people to break world records, we use to teach new swimmers to enjoy swimming with the best techniques in the world ... We learn from and teach the elite athlete and the new child!
To ensure the best lessons possible for everyone, the swimming and diving team needs help in offsetting the cost. To do this they are having the first annual “Swim for the Kids” event. This will be held September 1, 2007 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The goal is to swim 1,000,000 yards and raise enough money through donations to provide swimsuits, goggles, caps, & T-shirts to all registered for the swim lessons or stroke school. Please come help by swimming and/or donating.
