Valparaiso’s David Sivak (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) won both individual events he entered and was a part of the Crusaders’ winning 400 medley relay on Saturday afternoon but IUPUI spoiled Senior Day with a 116-88 victory over the Brown and Gold at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool.

Sivak, one of two Crusaders swimming at home for the final time, earned a win by 1.23 seconds in the 50 freestyle, cruising to a time of 21.41 seconds.  He also was triumphant in the 500 freestyle, an event he was swimming for the first time this season.  Sivak posted a time of 4:47.81, winning the event by three full seconds.

Sivak also helped Valpo open the meet victorious, swimming the lead-off leg of the 400 medley relay.  Tate Wegehaupt (Tigard, Ore./Tigard H.S.), Guillermo Aguilar (San Salvador, El Salvador/Colegio Internatcional de San Salvador H.S.), and Russell Deghi (Sebestopol, Calif./Analy H.S.) joined him for a 17 second win the event with a time of 3:39.18, the best by the Brown and Gold this year.

Wegehaupt added a pair of runner-up finishes to his resume for the afternoon, beginning in the 200 individual medley when he touched the wall in 2:04.91.  The freshman also placed second in the 200 breaststroke with a mark of 2:14.47, just 0.29 seconds off of the pace.

Aguilar and Kevin Fedde (Fort Collins, Colo./Heritage Christians H.S.) also posted second place finishes on the day.  Aguilar turned in a time of 2:02.48 in the 200 butterfly while Fedde swam a time of 2:05.29 in the 200 backstroke.

Toshko Ganzorigt (Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia/Orcholon H.S.), the only other senior on the roster besides Sivak, concluded his home career on a positive note as well.  He turned in season’s best times in both the 200 IM and the 200 breaststroke.

Valparaiso (0-11) will conclude the dual meet portion of the schedule next Saturday in Macomb, Ill. as the Crusaders face Western Illinois and Monmouth in double dual action.  The first event is set to begin at 1 p.m.
