Valparaiso’s men’s tennis team picked up the all-important doubles point on the way to recording its first victory of the 2012 spring season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Dayton 4-3 at the Five Seasons Racquet Club in Dayton, Ohio.

Adam Whitmer (Shipshewana, Ind./Westview H.S.) earned a win at fourth singles for Valparaiso on Saturday afternoon, but the Crusaders dropped a 6-1 match to Ball State at the Muncie YMCA in Muncie, Ind. in the season opener for the Brown and Gold.

The 2012 spring tennis season opens for Valparaiso University with the Crusaders looking to move up the ranks in the Horizon League. Head coach Jim Daugherty returns for his 27th season at the helm of the Brown and Gold and has a roster loaded with seniors on it this year.

In a fun-spirited contest, the Valparaiso University men’s tennis team defeated their returning alumni 10-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Valpo Tennis Complex in the annual alumni tournament held as part of Homecoming weekend.
