Valpo Downs Centenary 4-0 on Friday

Valparaiso cruised to an easy 4-0 victory over Centenary in Mid-Continent Conference action in Quincy, Ill. on Friday.

The Crusaders won the doubles point. After winning third doubles by default, Ben Dunham-Freer (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands H.S.) and Tim Shideler (Valparaiso, Ind./Munster H.S.) posted an 8-2 win at the top spot to clinch the win. Nic Kooyers (Holland, Mich./Holland H.S.) and Shabbi Khan (Karachi, Pakistan/Oasys H.S.) led 6-3 at second doubles when the match was stopped.

Valpo then continued to win easily in singles. A default at six by Centenary (2-13, 1-3 Mid-Con) made it 2-0. Kooyers was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at the top spot and David Bukowski (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect H.S.) posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at the fifth spot to secure the win. Dunham-Freer was up a set at two while Joe Venegas (Saint Charles, Ill./North H.S.) and Shideler were both leading at three and four respectively when their matches were stopped.

Valparaiso (6-12, 3-1 Mid-Con) will face IUPUI at 9 a.m. on Saturday in Macomb, Ill.
