Crusaders Open Bradley Invitational with Mixed Results

Valparaiso posted four victories on Friday evening as the Crusaders opened the Bradley Invitational in Peoria, Ill.

Nic Kooyers (Holland, Mich./Holland H.S.) was locked in a battle with Chris Clark of Toledo in the A singles flight when Clark retired in the second set, giving the Crusader senior a 4-6, 6-5, ret. victory.

David Bukowski (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect H.S.) also notched a win in the B singles flight with his 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Mike Tiu of Western Illinois. Mike Shideler (Valparaiso, Ind./Munster H.S.) also posted a 7-5, 5-7, 10-8 victory over an opponent from Toledo in the B flight.

In the C flight, Tom Litscher (Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial H.S.) was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Saint Louis while Alex Lau (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson Senior H.S.) and Shideler teamed for an 8-1 win over the Billikens as well in the C flight of doubles.

Valparaiso will return to the courts at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning for day two of the invitational.
