Valparaiso’s men’s tennis team wrapped up the road portion of the 2010 spring season on Friday evening, dropping a 7-0 decision to Detroit at Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield, Mich.

The Titans opened the match winning all three closely contested doubles matches.  Patrick Troy and Nick Tolomei started with an 8-6 victory at number two doubles against Adam Whitmer (Shipshewana, Ind./Westview H.S.) and Chris Baum (Charlotte, N.C./Providence H.S.). Detroit (7-9, 1-3 Horizon) secured the point at number one as Pjotrs Necajevs and Christopher Cheung topped Tom Litscher (Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial H.S.) and Arne Diehle (Reutlingen, Germany/Johannes Kepler H.S.) by the score of 8-5.  At third doubles, Alex Latosinsky and Csar Escobar Serrano downed Kevin DeHerrera (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) and Kyle Stump (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth H.S.) 8-5.

Valpo forced tie-breaks for the third set in two of the singles contests, but could not come away with the win.  Latosinsky defeated Whitmer at the second spot 6-4, 2-6, 10-2 while Serrano beat Litscher 6-1, 2-6, 10-7 at the fourth spot.  Necajevs topped Stump 6-2, 6-0 at the top of the order while Troy bested Baum 6-1, 6-4 at number three.  Tolomei was a 6-2, 6-2 victor over Diehle at number five singles while Cheung rounded out the lineup with a 6-2, 7-6 (5) win over DeHerrera.

Valparaiso (2-10, 0-2) will begin a six-match homestand at the Valpo Tennis Complex next Friday afternoon as the Crusaders host Youngstown State.  First serve is set for 1 p.m.
