Men's Tennis Season Ends with Loss to Wright State

Wright State defeated Valparaiso 7-0 on Sunday afternoon at the South Regency Tennis Center in Miamisburg, Ohio to bring the 2010-2011 tennis season to the close for the Crusaders.

Wright State (15-8, 5-2 Horizon) opened the match posting three doubles wins.  Jan Alafriz and Brian Dredge defeated Jose Gaspar (Sao Paulo, Brazil/CEAD H.S.) and Eric Honert (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) 8-6 at the top of the lineup while Evan Neuman and Landon Neuman teamed for an 8-4 victory over Chris Baum (Charlotte, N.C./Providence H.S.) and Adam Whitmer (Shipshewana, Ind./Westview H.S.) at the second spot. Riyad Bennoui and Hayden Joblin added an 8-5 win at third doubles against Kevin DeHerrera (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) and Kyle Stump (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth H.S.).

In singles action, Alafriz was a 6-0, 6-3 winner over Baum at the top of the order while Joblin downed DeHerrera 6-1, 6-3 at second singles.  Martin Arguello added a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Honert at three before Landon Neuman defeated Michael Woodson (Raleigh, N.C./Ravenscroft H.S.) 6-4, 6-3 at the fourth spot.  Dredge downed Stump 6-3, 6-7 (2), 10-8 in a match tie-break at five while Michal Lyzwa defeated Whitmer 7-6 (2), 6-3 at sixth singles.

“It’s unfortunate that we were not healthy to finish up the season,” head coach Jim Daugherty said.  “Our guys fought hard until the end though and that’s all I can ask from them.”

Valparaiso finished the season 9-13 overall, 0-7 in the Horizon League.
