Valpo's Third Straight Shutout Caps Dominating Weekend at Home
Freshman Charlie Emhardt won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 singles to move to 8-3 overall in singles.

The Valparaiso men's tennis team completed a perfect weekend Sunday afternoon with a 5-0 sweep over the Dayton Flyers at The Courts of NWI. Four of the Crusaders' five total points came during singles play and all four were tallied by freshmen.

"The atmosphere today was electric. Our guys really fed off the energy. The fan support was great," head coach Jim Daugherty said.

Charlie Emhardt (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) won decisively over Kyle MacDonald 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 singles. Jeffrey Schorsch (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) followed with a 6-5 (7-2), 6-1 victory over Aidan Koross at No. 1.

Kyle Dunn (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) won his fourth consecutive singles match Sunday with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Andy Druffel at No. 5. Dave Bacalla (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) wrapped up the action as he topped Bernando Sanson 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2.

Valpo claimed the doubles point with wins at all three spots. 

Schorsch and Emhardt recorded a 6-3 decision over Andrew Hanley/Josh Malyon at No. 2 doubles.

Sophomore Michael Baiocchi (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) and Dunn outlasted Druffel and Colin Bernier 6-5 (7-4) before Bacalla and Daniel Oakes (Elburn, Ill./Saint Charles North) dispatched Koross/Sanson 6-4 at No. 1 doubles.

The Crusaders (5-1) will have the week to prepare for #75 Purdue next Saturday in West Lafayette. The Boilermakers are coming off a statement 6-1 win Sunday over #64 Arkansas in Fayetteville.
