The Crusader men's tennis team won their final non-conference match of the season Tuesday, defeating Chicago State 7-0 at the Homewood-Flossmoor Racquet and Fitness Club in Homewood, Illinois.
Senior Eric Honert (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley) and sophomore Kyle Dunn (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) raced out to an 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles against Luis Ulloa/Uros Pajic.
Dave Bacalla (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) and Daniel Oakes (Elburn, Ill./Saint Charles North) picked up their eleventh doubles win of the season at No. 1 with an 8-5 decision over Sergiu Muresan and Mario Noboa.
Lucas Waak (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) and Charlie Emhardt (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) added an 8-5 triumph at No. 3.
Waak recorded the first singles win of the day for the Brown and Gold via a 6-1, 6-1 straight-set result over Ulloa at No. 5.
With Jeffrey Schorsch getting the day off, Bacalla slid into the No. 1 singles slot and quickly handed Julian Chavez a 6-3, 6-2 defeat.
Dunn downed Rashley Yeremia 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.
Emhardt clinched the match for the Crusaders by means of a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Muresan at No. 3 singles.
At No. 2, Honert got past Noboa 6-4, 6-3 before sophomore Brian Hickey (Western Springs, Ill./Fenwick) made it a clean sweep for Valparaiso with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.
Valpo (17-7, 2-2 Horizon) prepares for a busy weekend. The Crusaders will host Youngstown State (5-14, 1-2 Horizon) on Friday at 11:00 am CT before they take on Cleveland State (12-7, 3-1 Horizon) in a Saturday afternoon showdown at 2:00 pm.
