Valparaiso University placed three members of its men's tennis team on the All Mid-Continent Conference Teams, including a pair on the First Team as the league's yearly honors were awarded on Tuesday.

Senior Ben Dunham-Freer (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands H.S.) and sophomore Nic Kooyers (Holland, Mich./Holland H.S.) were each named to the Mid-Con First Team while sophomore Joe Venegas (Saint Charles, Ill./North H.S.) earned Second Team accolades.

For Dunham-Freer, this marks the third straight season he has earned First Team honors. Playing both first and second singles this season, he finished 12-13 overall and a perfect 3-0 in Mid-Con action. Dunham-Freer also played first doubles where he was 13-13 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The three-time Mid-Con Athlete of the Week this season finished his career wearing the Brown and Gold with a 15-4 mark in conference singles action and with a 17-3 doubles record in Mid-Con play.

Kooyers, a Mid-Con Second Team pick as a rookie last season, shared the first and second singles role with Dunham-Freer this season. He finished 14-15 overall in singles action, including a 4-2 Mid-Con mark. Playing both first and second doubles as well, Kooyers was 15-14 overall and 3-1 in conference action.

Venegas is making his first appearance as an All-Conference selection. Playing third singles the majority of the year for the Brown and Gold, he finished 12-17 overall with a 4-1 mark in Mid-Con action.

The trio helped lead Valparaiso to a 9-13 record overall and a 5-1 finish in Mid-Continent Conference action, where the Crusaders finished second. Head coach Jim Daugherty's squad also advanced to the conference tournament title match before seeing their six-match winning streak come to an end.
