Valparaiso University's Nic Kooyers (Holland, Mich./Holland H.S.) has been named the Mid-Continent Conference Athlete of the Week after posting a combined 5-2 record over the weekend at the Windy City Invitational.

The junior went 3-1 in the A Flight of singles play, advancing to the championship match. He downed opponents from Ferris State, Illinois-Chicago, and Chicago State, all in straight sets, before falling to Brenton Bacon of Ferris State in the title tilt.

In doubles play with Mike Shideler (Valparaiso, Ind./Munster H.S.), the duo posted wins against Grand Valley State and Chicago State, both at the number one position.

For Kooyers, it is the sixth time he has earned the honor in his three years with the Brown and Gold. He earned it three times as a rookie and twice last season in addition to this week's honor.
