Valparaiso posted three consolation draw titles on Sunday afternoon as the Crusaders wrapped up play at the Bradley Invitational in Peoria, Ill.
Joe Venegas (Saint Charles, Ill./North H.S.) posted a consolation title in the B Flight winning by default over Wade Ward of Toledo. Alex Lau (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson Senior H.S.) also triumphed over an opponent from Toledo, Keith Moran, to win the consolation crown in the C Flight 6-3, 6-1.
Mike Shideler (Valparaiso, Ind./Munster H.S.) dropped his match in the championship of the main draw in the C Flight, falling to Tyler Sonkin of Toledo 6-3, 6-1.
In doubles play, the duo of David Bukowski (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect H.S.) and Mike Wagner (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer H.S.) were 8-6 victors over a team from Bradley for the consolation title in the B Flight. Lau also teamed with Michel Marara-chvili of Bradley in the main draw finals of the C Flight, but the duo fell 8-6 to a team from Cleveland State.
Valparaiso will return home next Saturday to take part in dedication ceremonies for the Valparaiso University Tennis Complex beginning at 10:30 a.m. At 3 p.m., the Crusaders will host their annual Alumni Tournament.
