Crusader Duo Enjoying Summer Success

Sophomores Jeffrey Schorsch (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) and Charlie Emhardt (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) defeated Indiana University's Stefan Lugonjic and Jacob Rother 8-2 on Thursday to capture the main draw championship at an ITA Summer Circuit event held at the Schwartz Tennis Center on Purdue University's campus.

The tandem entered the tourney as the #2 seed and collected five wins en route to their crown.

On Saturday, Schorsch and Emhardt downed Indiana Wesleyan's Joel Montgomery and Kaman Tabor 8-1. The pair followed the victory up with an 8-3 result over John Benedetto and Max Mackinnon on Sunday in the Round of 16.

The Crusader duo kept their foot on the accelerator in the quarterfinals with a convincing 8-1 defeat of Trinity University's Connor Dunn and Bowdoin College's Luke Trinka. The triumph set up a semifinals showdown opposite University of Denver's Mark Ihrig and Michigan State's Alexander Kim. Schorsch and Emhardt again met little resistance as they cruised to an 8-1 triumph over the mixed doubles pair.

Their 8-2 victory over Lugonjic/Rother represented the first time a Crusader doubles team scored a win at a summer ITA event since Chris Baum and Michael Woodson in 2011.

In the singles portion of the event, Schorsch went 4-0 before falling to eventual champ Damon Niquet of the College of William & Mary in the semifinals. In the process, Schorsch handed straight set defeats to Western Michigan's Michael Treis and Indiana's Elliott Yee.
